Customer Success Story: Mergon and Microsoft Power Platform

Evros has helped many customers on their Microsoft Power Platform journey towards efficient business workflows.

Evros customer, Mergon International is an innovative technical moulding company providing components, assemblies and technical services to leaders in the automotive, industrial and healthcare sectors.

The Challenge

Mergon needed an automated sign-in function for their Dublin site. With three separate locations, multiple contractors would arrive on-site but without physical reception or welcome personnel. This made it difficult for visitors accessing the sites.

The Solution

Mergon collaborated with the Evros App Development team and leveraged the Microsoft Power Platform to create the Visitor365 App. The customised App streamlined the sign-in process for on-site visitors and contractors. Upon signing in, it creates an entry in the company database with all relevant details captured. The App then notifies the host of their guest arrival. This provides the company with correct and up-to-date information about how many visitors are in the building.

Visitor365 App gave Mergon its very first insight into the behaviours of its contractors; who was onsite, how many hours they were present, what location they went to, and who they were reporting to. By creating a chain-reaction of innovation with the Visitor365 App, Mergon started its first step towards automation and analytical insight.

The Process

Visitor365 App is developed using Microsoft Office365 components exclusively. This is because of the company’s strategic decision to develop an application that will enable users to start using Microsoft products already covered by their O365 license. The main component, used to gather information and interact with visitors, is Microsoft Power Apps. The visitors’ details are stored in the SharePoint Online servers. Microsoft Flow (now Power Automate) enables information pass from Power Apps to SharePoint list and triggers communication flow between two parties.

Another feature of this app is to improve the visitor’s safety while visiting the company by providing a comprehensive status report to the receptions and/or health and safety officers in case of an emergency. Health and safety officers will have the information on their tablets showing how many guests are visiting the building in real time.

The Outcome

Imagine what Mergon could derive from that data? First, Visitor365 streamlined its once manual and clunky sign-on workflow. Yet, in the process of that enablement it created an opportunity to leverage data and insight from this new digitised workflow for future efficiency strategies.

By adopting these Microsoft solutions, Mergon further empowered one of its employees–with no prior programming experience–to create an in-house app that replaced a previously paper-based system.

Brian Murphy, Environmental, Health and Safety Manager at Mergon International, keeping people safe at work is a primary concern. Until recently, they used handwritten cards to log health and safety observations and report any issues or incidents.

Brian taught himself to use Microsoft PowerApps and an enterprise app that tracked health and safety observations quickly and efficiently, replacing a paper-based system that was time consuming and open to human error. The simplification of its approach to health and safety means that Mergon now has a consistent reporting process in place that ensures an accurate audit trail.
